The Car Collection Of WRC Legend Juha Kankkunen

I cling to the roll bar as the man who won 23 rallies slides a Group B car past the front door of his private museum. The Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2, for example, is the very car in which he won the Swedish Rally in 1986. "In '86 I went from a rear-wheel-drive Toyota to a four-wheel-drive Peugeot," says Kankkunen. "It required a totally different style of driving but it only took me three months to adjust and I won the second rally I entered. When you're a kid you can learn anything quickly."Kankkunen won his first World Championship with Peugeot in 1986, but the infamous Group B cars were banned a year later following the death of his close friend Henri T

Buying Hunter Douglas Brand Products

When you want to spruce up your home, you need to ensure that you only buy good products and brands that are guaranteed to serve you well and last for a long time. Consequently, many people have opted to buy products only of a specific brand and not buy something that is going to give them problems in the long run like losing its shine or luster or even just falling apart due to some other reason. Hence, instead of skimping and buying something unreliable, you should consider investing your hard earned money in something that will last and serve you for a long time to come.Among the many different kinds of brands that are available in the market today,

Diecast Model Cars - A History - Facebook

There is quite a long history of craftsmen building detailed miniature replicas of transport vehicles and machinery, but it wasn't until 1934 that diecast model cars and lorries arrived on the market in any great numbers. At that time the model cars and trucks weren't regarded as collectable items in their own right - they were produced to lend added realism to model railways.Since the early 1920s Frank Hornby had been making increasingly complex train sets. One of the sets, Meccano Set No 21, was embellished with six diecast models, consisting of a motor truck, a sports coupe, a delivery van, a sports car, a farm tractor, and an Army tank. These were t

Collecting Diecast Matchbox Cars

Matchbox cars are probably in every man's past. Almost every little boy at one time or another has owned at least one matchbox car, but probably more than just one. These diecast cars are the fabric of molding our imagination as a child. I can remember setting up tracks and little towns as a child and running my matchbox cars for hours at a time. I also remember my mother getting angry as she would step on them in the middle of the night or just coming into my room at any given time. Matchbox cars are as popular today as they were some 50 years ago. Every Wal-Mart or dollar store has some sort of display with these diecast models hanging on the rack. M

Toy Review Of Pixar-Disney Mattel Diecast Cars

From the popular Disney Pixar film "Cars", a range of adorable diecast toy cars arise. The producer of these cars is none other than Mattel, who has made over a hundred cars based on the "characters" of the aforementioned movie. Some of the more limited releases have become collectors' items and are already not available from the producers' market. They may, however, be found through other channels like eBay.For only as much as $4, you can own a toy car made of good materials and fine details. It is said that these new toys are rather hardy, and can withstand the throwing from kids. Of course, I do not recommend that you try that at home. In fact, try

How You Can Protect Your Diecast Collectibles

"How can I protect my beloved diecast collections?" I believe not many collectors have the answer to that. Few are able to see their valuables as assets and thus insure them against fire, theft and the like. Having said that, if you treasure your collection and its worth, its mandatory that you call your insurance agent and discuss a plan to cover your collection. But unless your agent is also a diecast collector, he would not know how much those vehicles are worth. It will be a tragedy that you get paid hundreds for a collection worth thousands. In the first place, you will have to convince him/her that your collection are "assets", therefore worthy o

You Need A Hobby!

One of my eNewsletter subscribers (Jim W. from Tennessee) sent me information on his hobby. I loved his stories and the photos. Jim collects, re-tools, and races Mustangs. His hobby caused him to meet his wife of 40+ years, meet folks who have become friends, bond with younger members of his family, and travel. He tells me that his car hobby has even kept him young! That's good stuff.Jim closed his letter to me with this: "Mustangs, and the people who love them, are two of my favorite parts of life! Regarding my hobby -- I live it and love it. I hope that everyone can find something similar that they love and are passionate about, and live it, too!"Wow

Review Of The Papo Plesiosaurus Model - A Scale Model Of A Marine ...

It was with great delight that we learned some two years ago that Papo of France was going to release a model of a Plesiosaur as part of its Dinosaur scale model collection. Not being ones to quibble, we did point out that their model range, simply entitled Dinosaurs, or as the French refer to it as "Dinosaures" was a bit of a misnomer. Of the sixteen scale models in this beautifully made set, only ten represent dinosaurs. However, we were delighted when the Plesiosaurus model was released, it really is a delight and it has already attracted a number of favourable comments from palaeontologists and serious model collectors. Plesiosaurus was not a Dinosa

Collecting Diecast Cars - NASCAR

I've been collecting diecast cars for awhile now, I started with Hot Wheels as a child then as I got older I started collecting larger muscle cars. I collected Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds and so on. I also collected Indy cars and Formula 1, now I'm collecting NASCAR diecast cars. You can really go nuts with the NASCAR collection; each driver has two or three different paint schemes so you can collect them all for your favorite drivers, don't forget all the Special Editions and fantasy paint schemes. Then there are all the different scales you can collect them in. You can get them in scale sizes from 1:64 to 1:18, 1:64 being the smallest and 1:18 b

Deck The Halls, And Other Seasonal Things To See To

From buying last-minute gifts to cooking the turkey, here are some tips to get through the festive season. The Tree Jessica Black Real or fake Christmas tree - which is better for the environment? In the US, the debate is being thrashed out by two competing industry bodies. In the corner for fresh pines, the argument goes that tree farms absorb carbon dioxide, while the team for fake trees has sponsored a study showing that a plastic conifer used for a decade has a smaller carbon footprint. If two-way pine politics is too confounding, there are other options if your living room is still treeless a week out from Christmas. A potted tree will sidestep th
