Car Show Planned

SAN ANGELO, Texas "Sunset Mall, 4001 Sunset Drive, will host its fourth annual Sunset Mall Motor Show on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9. The event will be held in the mall's east parking lot next to Sears.Awards will be given for the top three in each class. There are classes for motorcycles, boats and automobiles. The entry fee is $25 and includes a t-shirt, dash plaque and goody bag. A new contest this year will be the San Angelo Model Club's Model contest. The entry fee will be free for any type of model. Models can be planes, trains, cars, and others. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9. Participants who pre-register

Collecting NASCAR Diecast Cars

As a young boy I always had little figurines like GI Joe, the green Army men and plastic tanks and don't forget the little soldier with the parachute that didn't always open. Those were fun to play with but when I got my first Hot Wheels that changed everything. It started an interest in cars that never stopped. Those little suckers were fast and there were so many models and bright colors to choose from.From there I got into watching auto racing, not much on the TV those days (I'm going back a bit), I believe Wide World of Sports carried some of the big races of stock car racing. LOCAL TRACKS: Practice Sessions To Be Held As Start Of 2011 Season Nears

While the temperatures remain in the lower digits, the action on area tracks will be heating up in preparation for the 2011 season.On Saturday, Five Mile Point Speedway, just over the border in Kirkwood, N.Y., will hold a practice session. Pits open at 11 a.m. for inspection with practice starting at 2 p.m. Grandstand admission is free with the donation of a canned good to benefit the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse.Five Mile Point will hold another practice session April 9 at 2 p.m. Then, on April 10, the track will host a Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman 30-lap race at 4 p.m.Meanwhile, Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna will have three test-and-tun

Japanese Auto Parts Makers Struggle To Recover

While restoration work is rapidly moving forward at manufacturers' plants, many small and midsize auto parts makers remain unsure about when they will be able to resume full-scale operations. Operations at Nissan Motor Co.'s Iwaki plant in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, were suspended after the earthquake. On Tuesday, Nissan Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn visited the plant, where he told reporters he wanted production to partially resume in mid-April and on a full scale in early June.
