Mattel Inc., the world's biggest toy company, has agreed to buy Hit Entertainment, the British TV production company responsible for creating two of the most beloved kids' licenses, ever " Thomas Friends (formerly Thomas the Tank Engine), and Bob the Builder. Additional properties - also from Hit and part of the purchase - include top-notch preschool licenses, such as Barney, Fireman Sam, and Angelina Ballerina.Although through an earlier licensing agreement Mattel has been marketing Thomas Friends diecast and plastic toys for several years, the acquisition of Hit also puts Mattel squarely in the driver's seat in the very lucrative Thomas-brand wood
