Historic Model Ship: From Stone Age To Information Age

Behind every historic model ship that you see is a fascinating history. Building these ship models is arguably the oldest hobby known to mankind. The Egyptians were the first to build such ship models. They even placed it near the grave, when they buried sailors and merchants who spent their lives engaged in maritime activity. However, what seems like a hobby today was not so then. It was serious business. What remains today is a shadow of this fine art, which once enabled man to discover other civilizations and connect with them. It is difficult to imagine how human history would have been without the advent of model ships. What a Historic Model Ship

Diecast Model Vehicles - Starting A Collection

Collecting is a hobby that is fun and can be a great way to escape everyday pressures for a little while. Often the theme of a collection is hard to define though the collector will know just what is to be included and what is not. The History Of Diecast Model Cars

The production of diecast model cars and other vehicles started in the year 1934.At that time, diecast cars and trucks were merely an addition to model railways, to make them more realistic, therefore not really regarded as collectibles by people. The early diecast models were not as coveted as they are today, due mainly to the fact that they were made with a alloy with high lead content. As we know, lead breaks easily, thus it was not possible to build the models to a good level of detail. Besides, they were not meant to be made after real vehicles.Soon, manufacturers realize that there is a great market for such models. They began to build diecast mod

Ray Wert - This is the Morning Shift , our one-stop daily roundup of all the auto news that's actually important - all in one place at 9:00 AM. Or, you could spend all day waiting for other sites to parse it out to you one story at a time. Isn't your time more important? 1st Gear: OK, so, along with learning that a little prick of a kid will save the human race when he's older, the other thing we learned from watching Terminator 2: Judgement Day way back in 1991 was that you need very hot furnaces to melt killer robots. Thanks to the March 11th Japanese earthquake, Iwaki Diecast, a Toyota supplier, is a place I won't be going to destroy the T-1000. Th

Collecting Dinky Toys

When I was growing up in the south-east of England, the most desirable toy for most boys and some girls was a Dinky Toy - 1/43rd scale diecast model cars. I started to collect them in the late 1950s. At that time most Dinky Toy cars were 2/6d (Two shillings and six pence - about 25 cents in US money) and they came in a distinctive yellow box. They had actually been around since the early 1930s originally called "Modelled Miniatures" and intended mainly for use around train sets, the BIG boys' toy of the time, but they took on a life of their own and were manufactured in both England and France for many years. For me their heyday was the fifties and sixt

Vintage Redline Hot Wheels Values - Rising Or Declining?

As a vintage Hot Wheels collector for over 16 years, I've seen a lot of different phases in this hobby and it's clear that we've been in a period of Redline Hot Wheels values declining over the last several years.Part of this can be attributed to the economy, but I believe there is an overall larger trend that is affecting the values of collectible Redlines. This larger trend has to do with the demographics of collectors. You see, most vintage Redline collectors are between the ages of 40 and 50 due to the fact that Hot Wheels were first produced in 1968 and the brand is actually 42 years old. This means most of today's collectors where first introduced

Why We Collect The Nascar Diecast 1 24 Models

Why do we collect Nascar diecast 1 24 scale model cars? Well, there's just something about them...It's not just having cool little pieces of memorabilia to show off, it's more like... You know when you were a kid, there was probably some other kid in your class who always bragged about having Babe Ruth's rookie card.He didn't really have Babe Ruth's rookie card, but it's the same idea. If you bought yourself a Dale Earnhardt diecast back BEFORE he was the Elvis Presley of stock car racing, you've got a conversation starter right there, and serious bragging rights to boot.We basically use NASCAR diecast 1 24 scale models to show our stripe. We use them
